Protestant Church

Historically, the lives of Prostestants were closely linked to the historical ups and downs of western Hungary. A somewhat greater freedom of religion was established and even the construction of their own churches was permitted.

For pioneering initiatives in founding a Protestant community in Eisenstadt, theologian and school director Karl Király and lawyer Matthias Laschober were responsible.

It was not until 1924 that the first Superintendent of Burgenland was appointed. Eisenstadt’s Protestant church was built in 1935, together with the parish house in St. Rochus Street. It celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2010. Since 1956, Eisenstadt  has been seat of the Superintendency.
